Major European brands such as Nestle and Knorr, and Chinese brands such as Lee Kum Kee and Wang Shu Li, which market soya sauce and spice mixes are being counterfeited on a large scale in China by small scale factories. China's Food and Drug Administration have started an investigation. In December 2016, the Chinese Food and Drug Administration said it had conducted 15 million inspections in the first three quarters of 2016, during which more than 500,000 incidents of illegal behaviour were found.
