New European guidance to help small food businesses assess fraud risks
Small and medium-sized (SME) food businesses and other interested stakeholders are invited to help develop European recommendations for assessing and reducing food fraud risks. The EFF-CoP project will launch the collaborative process at a kick-off meeting in Amsterdam on 5 November.
As part of the EFF-CoP project, a European Good Practice Recommendation for SME food fraud vulnerability self-assessment will be developed and published as a CEN Workshop Agreement (CWA). The CWA will outline how to evaluate if, and under what circumstances, food fraud is a risk for the SME in question, what measures to take to reduce this risk, how to detect if it is happening, and what external knowledge and resources are available.
Open process seeks participants
The CWA process is consensus-driven and open to anyone who is interested. The kick-off meeting for the CWA process will be in-person, in Amsterdam, on November 5th from 13.00 to 17.00 at Meet Berlage – Amsterdam Center. This coincides with the Fraud Film Festival and the associated workshops that take place in Amsterdam on November 5th-6th where many interested parties are present.
An initial draft CWA will be produced after the workshop, two public hearings will be conducted, and a final meeting of the CWA process will be in Q3 of 2027. The kick-off meeting and the final meeting of the CWA process will be physical, but there will be a sequence of online meetings in connection with the hearings, so it is possible to participate later on in the process without attending the first physical meeting.
