A vivacious and enthusiastic regulatory science professional with more than 10 years experience in the areas of food traceability and integrity of the supply chain. She holds a Master of Science (MSc) cum laude in organic chemistry from the University of Catania (Italy) and a qualification as expert in quality, safety and certification of agri-products. Serena was always driven by the modern consumer perception responding to the challenges of globalization process, and by the regulatory compliance assessed through advanced and innovative techniques enhancing detection capability in a high-throughput manner. A keen interest in food fraud has driven her passion towards regulatory-research and method optimization for targeted and untargeted analysis of agri-foods using mostly Liquid Chromatography (LC) coupled to Mass Spectrometry (MS). She worked in research, corporate and regulatory environments (as researcher, vendor, QC chemist and consultant) been involved in technology transfer, agri-product certification services, assistance to laboratories, and in business development. She has extensive experience in collecting data and writing reports, with sound critical and analytical skills. She is also versed in texts relevant to food control systems, method requirements, data handling and validation (i.e. Codex texts, Food Safety Modernization Act, Reg. EC N. 178/2002, Reg. EC N. 882/2004, ISO standards, AOAC SMPRs, DEC 2002/657/EC). Most recently she is focusing on Multivariate analysis (MVA), and in particular on internal and external validation of chemometric-food-origin predictive models built on untargeted Ultra High Performance Chromatography / High Resolution Accurate Mass MS (UHPC-HRAM MS)-based metabolomics data.
